Fellowship
|
Good Samaritan offers many activities, programs, and organized groups to enrich your ministry and growth. Some provide opportunities to serve our parish and community while others allow us to get to know one another better and strengthen our sense of church family.

Fellowship and Parish Life Organized Groups:
Men’s Group: This is a fellowship group that meets for a variety of fun activities.
Book Club: This group meets monthly to share dinner and discuss their current favorite read.
Women’s Group: Parish women of all ages gather monthly for a variety of activities and programs.
Prime Timers : This group of active church members aged 50+ provides social opportunities with other adults.

Moms' Group: This is a newly-formed group that welcomes all moms. It is a fellowship group that also provides support, friendship and prayers.
Kitchen Guild: This guild is a great way to make new friends, support the staff and activities of Good Samaritan, and facilitate an important fellowship opportunity.
Supper Club: Supper club is an excellent way to enjoy great fellowship, have lots of fun, meet new people, and practice new culinary skills. Groups of eight-to-10 meet for dinner in parishioners’ homes, with four gatherings planned each year, after a kick-off dinner in the early fall.
Hospitality Volunteers: Assist in planing and preparing for special events, receptions, hosting weddings and funerals. Volunteers to call and arrange for coverage of these events are also needed.
Some of the great activities offered at Church of the Good Samaritan include:
Mount LeConte Hike: Each summer on the last weekend in June, Good Samaritan organizes a hike and overnight stay at LeConte Lodge, atop 6,593 foot-high Mount LeConte. Lodge facilities are rustic, allowing an opportunity to escape from the high-tech world below. Church services are held outside on Sunday morning. This is an unforgettable experience that includes lots of communing with nature; spectacular views; animal recognition opportunities; good food and great fellowship; special entertainment by fellow hikers; making new friends, and opportunities to win valuable prizes!
Chili Cook Off :This annual event spices up an otherwise dull January or February. Free food, great fellowship, the chance to win valuable prizes and the opportunity to try new recipes on willing tasters are the benefits of this affair.
Advent Suppers: Wednesday Advent meals traditionally begin with an evening of seasonal music provided by the Webb School Madigral Singers. These get-togethers provide an oasis of peace in the midst of the holiday hubbub.
Lenten Suppers: Parish suppers are held on Wednesdays during Lent and feature a church service or short program. Youth activities are also offered.
Easter Brunch: This parish-wide brunch is held between services to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord! A large cross is decorated with flowers contributed by parishioners and placed in the sanctuary for the service. Helping out with the Easter Brunch is good way to work with a team on a parish celebration!
Pastoral Care Activities:
Pastoral care is a ministry of service that supports the efforts of our clergy to minister to those within and outside our congregation. We are called to be materially and spiritually available to our parish family during times of loss, illness, need, or trouble.
Caring for Each Other: This is an in-reach program, focusing on the family we have at the Church of the Good Samaritan. The ministry aids church members in a variety of ways during times of need, i.e., family illness, hospitalizations, births, deaths, etc. Caring for Each Other is an excellent way for new members to become better acquainted with others in the parish.
Flower Delivery: Volunteers deliver the altar flowers after the 11 a.m. service on Sunday to the hospitalized, homebound, discouraged, or especially accomplished. Volunteers also deliver special flowers after Christmas and Easter services.
Secret Friends: A one-on-one ministry of secret encouragement. Parishioners may choose to be a “Secret Friend” for a year, encouraging someone else through cards and inexpensive gifts.
Daughters of the King: The Daughters of the King is an Order for laywomen of the Episcopal Church dedicated to serving our Lord and building up His Church. Monthly meetings are held the third Sunday of the month. This is a lifelong commitment.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors: These parishioners are licensed by the Bishop and take the reserved sacrament to shut-ins or others who can not come to our services.
