Good Samaritan is blessed to have such a wonderfully peaceful and natural setting for our church building in the midst of West Knoxville's hustle and bustle.

Opportunities exist in several areas if you have special interests in or concerns about our building and facilities. We strive to be responsible stewards of all that's been entrusted to us, so our resources ministries offer opportunities to assist with:

Building and Grounds Activities
Good Samaritan is blessed to have such a wonderfully peaceful and natural setting for our church building in the midst of West Knoxville hustle and bustle. But even with the additions and renovations to our spaces, much maintenance attention is still needed. Traditionally, we have relied on the generous help donated by parishioners for many of our maintenance needs. Opportunities exist in several areas if you have special interests in or concerns about our building and facilities.

Workdays: At least once in the spring and once in the fall, on a Saturday morning, we invite all able bodies to meet at the church for a fun and productive clean-up and fix-up party. (This event is usually fueled by a hearty breakfast prepared by our men’s group.) We weed and mulch the flower beds, clean and pick up the grounds, and perform minor repairs. If the weather is bad, we turn our attention indoors. We furnish refreshments, and encourage all men, women, and older children to participate in the upkeep of our facility.

Volunteers for Church Maintenance: If you are handy or have special skills like plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or gardening, the church needs your help. These volunteers are called on to help with minor repairs as necessary. The work can range from changing a light bulb to performing complicated electrical or carpentry repairs. In the past, members of this group have changed spotlights in the nave, fixed broken doors and windows, helped maintain the grounds and repaired gutters and other problems. If you have talents in these areas, please join this very important group of people.

Finance Activities
The finance committee is the liaison between parish, staff, and vestry regarding church financial matters.

The finance committee has the following responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the annual budget
  • Oversight of monthly income and expenses
  • Presentation of financial statements to vestry
  • Oversight and implementation of annual stewardship campaign
  • Oversight of parish administration as directed by the vestry
  • Oversight and implementation of capital or building fund efforts as directed by the vestry

This committee comprises both vestry members and parishioners. The committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Stewardship Activities

The stewardship committee plans the annual giving campaign for the church. They work with the membership to plan a campaign that will help achieve parish goals as based on our mission and vision (link here).

Administration Activities

Opportunities exist for parishioners to volunteer their time assisting in the office to answer phones, help with mailings, typing, and filing. This need is particularly great when the secretary is on vacation or ill.
